Too much of our energy comes from dirty sources that harm our environment. But by tapping the power of the sun and wind, and using less energy in the first place, we can repower our lives with clean energy that doesn’t pollute and never runs out.

Protect Long Island Sound

More than 2 billion gallons of untreated sewage pour into Long Island Sound every year, closing beaches and contributing to massive hypoxic dead zones of water with little or no oxygen. In addition, short-sighted Supreme Court decisions have left more than half of Connecticut’s streams vulnerable to pollution — including streams that flow into the Sound. The EPA can help fix this problem and protect the Sound by updating Clean Water Act standards, but polluters and anti-environmental members of Congress are threatening to block action.

Global Warming Solutions

Connecticut’s Department of Energy & Environmental Protection and officials from other states in the Northeast are gearing up to make changes to the region’s landmark pollution program, which limits global warming emissions from power plants and invests in clean energy. With your support, we can convince state officials to strengthen the program so that Connecticut cuts more pollution and generates more clean energy.

The environmental costs of our oil dependence are severe — from oil spills, to smog, to climate change. It's time to set this country on a path to getting off oil. We can get there by investing in new, fuel-efficient automobile technologies like plug-in electric hybrids, and entirely electric and fuel-cell cars.

Clean Air, Healthy Families

New air pollution standards will cut mercury pollution by 90% and save 46,000 lives each year. The coal industry and their friends in Congress are trying to roll back these standards, but we’re urging Congress to let the EPA do its job and move forward with its commonsense plan to protect public health.
